Beware Domain Name Poachers

We’ve noticed a recent rise in unsolicited third party emails informing clients they have a key Domain name for sale and asking them to respond to negotiate a price. Astonishingly these domains aren't even registered and should the client respond to this email, the third party will then quickly secure Domains and then re-sell them at an inflated price.

This practice is perfectly legal, but the emails are misleading and take advantage of the fact that some bigger brands find it difficult to maintain a complete view of their Domain portfolio.

Domain Markets Growing

6th January 2011

Despite international economic difficulties in recent years, the market for global domain names continues to grow at 6% and .UK registrations has grown by 11.5%, so competition to secure a commercial domain portfolio is still fierce.

New annual .UK registrations were expected to hit two million for the first time by the end of 2010 with .UK replacing China’s .CN as the world’s second largest country code Top Level Domain Registry after .DE. Strengthening the UK’s global position in this way has to be viewed as a strong indicator of the growth that the UK Internet economy can expect in coming years.
